Lindo Wing postnatal care
Postnatal care package
Our care doesn’t have to stop when your baby is born. We offer optional paediatric and postnatal packages to give you piece of mind and support you through the early days with your baby.
Our postnatal care package will provide you with holistic support, information and advice, so that by the time you are discharged from our care you are feeling confident and happy about looking after your baby and ready for the on-going joy of parenthood.
We will provide five postnatal check-ups in the days following your baby’s birth. These are:
Within 48 hours of your discharge from hospital we will take the time to visit you at home to see how you are adjusting to life with your new baby.
Around day five we will check that you are all still doing well and that feeding is well established. We will also carry out the newborn blood test (heel prick), check baby’s weight, and also remove your stitches if necessary. This will also take place in your own home.
Around day 10 we will make sure that you and your baby are happy, that your baby is gaining weight and you are recovering well from the delivery. This session and the remaining two sessions can either take place online or at home.
These sessions can take place at a conveniently agreed time and will be with a small team of midwives and support staff from the Lindo Wing.
If your home address is not in London, we can still offer this service, but there may be an additional charge – the midwifery team will be able to advise.
As part of your obstetric care package, you will have access to a neonatologist during your stay at The Lindo Wing. Our neonataologist can be there to support you if you have any concerns about your newborn and will be able to direct you to any specialist consultant colleagues, should they be needed.
The neonatologist will carry out a newborn and infant physical examination (NIPE check) on your baby within 72 hours of birth, which will check for any immediate concerns relating to their heart, hips, eyes or testes.
Should your baby require any urgent care after their birth, our world-leading NHS neonatal service is on site, providing swift access to an expert team of neonatal specialists. We are able to offer treatment for your baby on the NHS at this point if your baby is eligible for NHS care.
Optional neonatal care package
For your peace of mind, we also offer an optional consultant-led neonatal care package to Lindo Wing parents for an additional fee.
Your specialist neonatal consultant will be available from 09.00 to 17.00 during weekdays and from 09.00 to 14.00 during weekends to undertake all the requisite neonatal checks, meaning you can be discharged quickly from our care, and return home to your new family life as soon as possible.
As part of this package, your baby can be seen by a specialist neonatal consultant during your stay if there are any concerns about jaundice or feeding. You can also take advantage of one additional phone consultation with your neonatal specialist within the first ten days should you have any additional questions or concerns.
Should your baby require readmission to hospital for either jaundice or feeding concerns within ten days of your hospital discharge, we will aim to accommodate both you and your baby in The Lindo Wing* with immediate effect, without the need to wait in A&E to be seen. The NHS wards are also available if preferred, for babies who are eligible for care.
