Biography
Dr Aristeidis Chaidos is a consultant haematologist and honorary senior lecturer at Hammersmith Hospital, with clinical and research interest in multiple myeloma, lymphomas and haematopoietic stem cell transplantation. He completed his training in haematology and PhD research on multiple myeloma at the University of Ioannina, Greece in 2005. He was then trained in haematopoietic stem cell transplantation at Hammersmith Hospital (2005 – 2007) and later joined Professor Karadimitris’ laboratory for post-doctoral research on multiple myeloma.
Dr Chaidos has a strong research interest in multiple myeloma propagating cells, epigenetic mechanisms in drug resistance and novel therapies. He is a principal investigator and co-investigator in several clinical studies on multiple myeloma and lymphomas.

Biography
Dr Adam Gassas is a full-time paediatric consultant in Imperial College Health Care NHS Trust and the lead for paediatric specialties in St Mary’s Hospital.
He completed his paediatric training in different hospitals in London, UK including Great Ormond Street Hospital, St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospital. Following the membership of the UK Royal College of physicians and the UK Royal College Paediatrics and Child Health, Dr Gassas obtained further training and fellowship in SickKids, Toronto, Canada in paediatrics, paediatric haematology/oncology and paediatric stem cell transplantation. This was followed by a consultant post in Sickkids, Toronto, Canada for 12 years. Upon return to UK, Dr Gassas spent 5 years as a director of a large paediatric programme in Bristol, UK.
Academically, Dr Gassas is the lead investigator of many paediatric research studies including national and international multi centre prospective studies that has led to many practices’ improvement in all aspects of paediatrics. He has published more than 80 original research articles in high impact medical journals.
Dr Gassas offers services to newborn, children, adolescents and young adults with any potential paediatric medical complaint. He advises, investigates and treat all children problems and has expertise in general paediatrics, complex paediatric problems, haematology/oncology and stem cell transplantations, autologous and allogeneic, to treat cancers and serious blood disorders.

Dr Kanfer qualified in medicine at the University of London, and trained in haematology in London and the USA.
His main interests and practice are in the lymphomas (both Hodgkin’s lymphoma and Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma), and in particular the management of relapsed disease including stem cell transplantation.

Professor Anastasios Karadimitris graduated in medicine at Aristotelion University, Thessaloniki, Greece. He undertook his postgraduate clinical training in the UK, first in general medicine and subsequently in haematology including in bone marrow transplantation at Hammersmith Hospital, London.
He undertook his research training with Professor Lucio Luzzatto at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre New York, USA, Professor Irene Roberts at Hammermsith Hospital, London and Professor Vincenzo Cerundolo at the Weatherall Institute for Molecular Medicine, Oxford.
He is currently professor of haematology at the Centre for Haematology, department of medicine, Imperial College, London and honorary consultant haematologist at the department of haematology, Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

Biography
Dr Alex King has worked in specialist psycho-oncology (cancer psychological care) in major London centres for over a decade, and currently leads the cancer psychology team at Imperial Healthcare NHS Trust.
Dr King obtained his BSc Psychology at the University of Kent and his MSc and DClinPsy Doctorate of Clinical Psychology at University College, London, where he continues to teach and supervise research and clinical trainees.
Clinically, Dr King’s approach draws flexibly on solution-focused, cognitive-analytic and cognitive-behavioural models, and he has a particular interest in treatment decision-making, preparing for surgery, and long-term effects of complex cancer treatments such as haematological stem-cell transplantation.

Biography
Professor Michael Laffan trained in medicine at Oxford University and in haematology at the Hammersmith and Royal Free hospitals in London. He returned to the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, then based at Hammersmith Hospital, as a consultant in 1992. He has been director of the Hammersmith Hospital Haemophilia Centre since that time. He has published extensively on blood coagulation and recently edited the 12th edition of Practical Haematology. Professor Laffan is chair of the British Society of Haematology Task Force on Haemostasis and Thrombosis and Chair of the UK Bleeding Disorders study group. He recently completed six years as secretary of the United Kingdom Haemophilia Centre Doctors’ Organisation (UKHCDO). He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists.
Biography
After graduating from University College London and completing postgraduate training in the UK, Dr Mark Layton was appointed as senior lecturer and honorary consultant in the department of haematological medicine at King’s College London in 1990.
He was subsequently appointed as consultant haematologist and honorary reader at Hammersmith Hospital in 2000.
Biography
Dr Asad Luqmani studied medicine at Imperial College, London, graduating in 1999 with a first in medicine.
He undertook his SpR training programme in the north west Thames rotation.
