Our private gynaecology and gynaecological oncology services are provided at the Sainsbury Wing of Hammersmith Hospital and in the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital.
Your treatment
At Imperial College Healthcare Private Care, we offer cutting-edge gynaecology procedures to our patients. We have made many treatments minimally invasive – for example, open surgery is no longer the only option for conditions such as endometriosis or fibroids – and we can examine the inside of the womb without a general anaesthetic if you prefer.
When you first visit us you will have a private gynaecology consultation with a specialist in your condition, before you are offered an ultrasound or MRI scan. A CT scan is rarely required. If you have a urogynaecological (bladder) issue, some specific tests may be required. We then offer the most appropriate treatment for your condition.
The team can treat many benign conditions without the need for major surgery. If you are able to have laparscopic (keyhole) surgery, we will make small incisions of 0.5-1.5 centimetres, rather than one large one, generally via your abdomen. We will examine your uterus by inserting a thin fibre-optic tube with a viewing device attached. Instruments to perform the surgery are inserted through the small incisions. Laparoscopic surgery means a quicker recovery and less post-operative pain.
Recovery from treatment varies according to the procedure:
Diagnostic procedures – same or next day
Non-invasive treatment – you will likely return to work the next day
Embolisation – you will stay in hospital for 24 hours and return to work within two weeks
Laparoscopic surgery – you may be able to return home the day after surgery and can be back at work in two to four weeks
Open surgery – you will likely return home within 4 days and be back at work in four to six weeks.
You will see your gynaecology consultant for follow-up scans between two and six weeks after surgery and potentially again after six months, and six months after non-invasive treatment.

These include the treatment of large fibroids and complex endemetriosis. We are also able to carry out hysterectomies and myomectomies using keyhole surgery where possible.
